The Sindh Government has issued a notification announcing the discontinuation of old vehicle number plates. Vehicle owners are required to replace their current plates with new security-enhanced plates as part of an effort to improve security and standardize vehicle identification across the province.
The new number plates feature advanced security elements and are available in two colors:
White: For private vehicles with Ajrak design.
Yellow: For commercial vehicles with Ajrak design.
Key Dates and Compliance
The replacement of old number plates is mandatory, with a final deadline set for April 3, 2025. After this date the existing number plates will no longer be valid. Owners are advised to act promptly to avoid inconvenience.
How to Obtain New Number Plates:
To obtain the new number plates, follow these steps:
1. Pay a fee of Rs. 1,800.
2. Submit your old plates to the Motor Registration Authority under the Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department of the Sindh Government.
3. Present the following documents:
- Original vehicle file.
- Original National Identity Card (NIC) of the vehicle owner.
New plates will be issued upon verification of your documents, with delivery taking anywhere from a couple of days to a few weeks. The government advises vehicle owners to apply for the plates promptly, ensuring that the new ones are handed over within the specified timeframe.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to visit their nearest Motor Registration Authority at the earliest to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.
