KIA EV5 Launches in Pakistan: Bookings Open for an Electric Future

Introduction

Recently, KIA Lucky Motors stirred excitement in the local automotive market by announcing its entry into the electric vehicle (EV) segment. Although the company kept us guessing initially about which model would make its debut in Pakistan, it has now confirmed the launch of the EV5—a mid-tier electric SUV from KIA's renowned EV lineup, which includes the EV3, EV5, EV6, and EV9.

KIA’s timing couldn’t have been better. The shift towards electric vehicles is gaining momentum in Pakistan, with several automakers already introducing or planning to launch EVs in the near future. By introducing the EV5, KIA is aiming not only to capture a rapidly expanding market with a model that balances performance and affordability but also to benefit from the incentives provided by Pakistan’s National Electric Vehicles Policy (NEVP). As part of its commitment under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Pakistan has set an ambitious goal: to have 30% of national car sales come from electric vehicles by 2030.

Offerings

The KIA EV5 is a compact crossover SUV produced by KIA, with its production beginning in 2023. Currently, KIA Lucky Motors offers two variants of the EV5: the AIR (short-range) 2WD and the EARTH (long-range) AWD. These models boast impressive all-electric ranges of 490 km and 620 km, respectively. For standard AC charging from 10% to 100%, the AIR variant requires 9 hours and 43 minutes, while the EARTH variant completes the charge in 8 hours and 10 minutes. For those in a hurry, DC fast charging is also available, allowing the AIR variant to charge in just 36 minutes and the EARTH variant in 38 minutes. The EV5's dimensions are comparable to the 4th-generation Sportage, which KIA Lucky Motors also offers in Pakistan.

In addition to standard features, the EV5 includes advanced functionalities such as Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA). It also offers dual-sided Parking Distance Warning (PDW), fingerprint authentication for navigation (AVN) and engine start, a head-up display (HUD), massage seats, and ambient mood lighting, among others. Feature availability varies by variant.

The KIA EV5 is offered in five striking colors: Snow White Pearl, Shale Grey, Starry Night Black, Ivory Silver, and Sky Blue.

Booking and Pricing

Bookings are now open for both variants of the KIA EV5, which can be reserved either online or at KIA dealerships. The ex-factory price is set at Rs. 18,500,000 for the base variant and Rs. 23,500,000 for the top variant. Customers can secure their booking with a 50% advance payment, with deliveries expected in January 2025.

If people argue that it is cheaper in the US because it is manufactured in the US, here is another example; In the Philippines, where the Corolla is an IMPORT, the top-of-the-line Corolla GR-S hybrid is 1.73 million Philippine Pesos. That comes out to be around 84 Lac PKR.
